Perfect Pain

Visage hidden by darkling mask obscured a wanton gaze.
Hot words breathed against your ear from 'neath the shadow's haze.

The venomed bite of your rejection poisoned me with pain,
I smiled in agony to feel you coursing through my veins.

The emptiness a sharpened dagger was thrust so deep within.
Cradled near I craved the pain to know where love began.

Like rising water dark and cold the loneliness was deep,
I gasped and strained but not to breathe, only your name to speak.

I stabbed my heart a thousand times but for one drop of blood,
To fall upon your pillow soft and whisper you my love.

Guarded then and hard as stone blood seeping from the cracks,
I hid the hurt so deep inside and covered all the tracks.

So ached my arms to draw you near, so parched my lips for yours,
So pained my flesh to feel your warmth each minute seemed like hours.

But so they passed and morning dawned, sun blazing in the skies,
But paled in brightness to the fire that I found in your eyes.

And at long last you turned to me and with a beckoning gaze,
Drew me nearer to the flames through a painful, smokey haze.

You reached to me with open arms and drew me to your side,
Against your cherished form at last I heaved a wanton sigh.

The world went white, the pain was gone, as hearts and souls entwined,
Eternity lived in the single moment when I first called you.... mine.
